Groom different breeds of dogs according to their hair types. Assess the behavior and condition of each dog and be able to groom large, overly excited, or frightened dogs without getting hurt or injuring the animals
Responsibilities include:
- Bathing and clipping dogs to conform to a variety of breed-specific standard styles
- Detangling and removing matted hair
- Drying the coat
- Checking for parasites and other skin conditions
- Trimming nails
- Cleaning the ears
- Expressing anal sacs
- Brushing teeth
- The groomer is also responsible for accommodating any special requests from the owner and informing owners of any health problems discovered during the grooming process.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience working as a Dog Groomer for at least 1 year
- Ability to work with other groomers
- Ability to lift dogs that weigh up to 50 pounds
- Grooming abilities
- Calming presence to sooth dogs
- Ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time
- Great communication skills
- Ability to work on a team
