Dog Groomer Job Description

Objectives of this role
Deliver superior and outstanding customer service to dog owners by executing style requests, communicating clearly and honestly, and bringing a positive attitude to work each day.
Provide exemplary cosmetic care for dogs, being gentle and patient with all dogs but especially with anxious and difficult dogs!
At Well Groomed Pets we conduct a 54 point wellness check on every dog at no charge to our customers. Our Groomers are a crucial part of this process, reporting lumps, lesions or any other findings as they groom the dog. We want to protect the best interests of our customers and their dogs, by notifying them of any issues found.
Help our organization continue to grow by forming fruitful relationships with customers that result in repeat visits.
Responsibilities
Clean and freshen pet hair by washing, and conditioning it.
Discuss and recommend grooming and cleaning best practices, and specifically what’s best for their furry best friends.
Shave, trim, and style pet’s hair according to our customer’s preferences.
De-matting and detangling hair as required.
Maintain overall pet hygiene by clipping nails, brushing teeth, cleaning ears, and expressing anal gland as requested.
Maintain a clean workstation by sanitizing and sweeping before the arrival of every client and at the end of every workday.
Help clean the salon, especially around your workstation.
Required skills and qualifications.
Proven professional grooming experience.
Solid understanding of dog behaviors.
Demonstrated passion for animals.
Ability to work comfortably with animals, especially anxious ones.
Ability to stand for at least two hours.
Attitude of continuous learning.
Willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
Well-developed verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Fear Free certification (can be acquired while employed, paid for by WGP)
AKC Safe certification (can be acquired while employed, paid for by WGP)
Andis Groomer Certification (can be acquired while employed, paid for by WGP)
Preferred skills and qualifications
Verifiable experience in dog grooming
Experience in customer service
Experience with animals in a professional or volunteer capacity
Professional certification - helpful, but not required (such as from the National Dog Groomers Association of America)
